Rythm

  1. Rythm is the part of music, which interracts most immediately, without it music won't be so hypnotic and pleasant. It gives us the feeling of excitment.
  2. Under rythm lies the concept of pulse of heart beating, so rythm is inherent in us. Rythm is presented in all kinds of music, even if we can't hear it.
  3. "Tempo"
  4. Swing is a form of American music that developed in the early 1930s and became a distinctive style by 1935. Swing uses a strong rhythm section of double bass and drums as the anchor for a lead section of brass instruments such as trumpets and trombones, woodwinds including saxophones and clarinets, and sometimes stringed instruments such as violin and guitar, medium to fast tempos, and a "lilting" swing time rhythm.

Melody

Part 1
  1. It seems that we have an inborn instinct for melody, which was "preinstall" in us before we were born. It's the same instinct we have for language: we can recognise notes and tunes as naturally as we can learn words. That's why melody is very similar to language.
  2. Pentatonic is a musical scale, which consists of five notes. Every music system shares these five notes in common,  so pentantonic scale can be found all over the world. It's important, because we can easily recognise these notes. Enormous numbers of songs of different music styles are based on these notes. They are our genetic inheritance, like five fingers.
  3. Notes: C - до, D - ре , E - ми , F - фа, G - со, A - ля, H - си
  4. Every musical system has its own number of notes. In Western scale there are twelve notes, other cultures have many more, so it makes notes sound much closer together.
  5. Pitch (высота) - is a major auditory attribute of musical tones. It discribes how "high" or "low" you want your note to sound.

Short story

White chrysanthemums

- Say, grandpa, when will you die?
That was the question Mr Owen heard from his little grandson today.
- Why are you saying this, child?
- But mom told us that when you die I can finally have my own room.

Mr Owen was not shocked, he even understood.

Piece of Art

Tiltle: Flycatcher and Chrysanthemums
Artist: Kano Yosetsu
Date: 16th century
Medium: Hanging scroll; ink and color on paper
Size: 132.1 x 59.7 cm
Country of Origin: Japan
Current Location: Museum of Fine Arts, Boston

I think, this picture is very inspiring. I find it really adorable. It's called Ukiyo-e, which is the main artistic genre of woodblock printing paintings, featuring motifs of landscapes, tales from history, the theatre etc. Ukiyo-e is very popular  in Japan and worldwide, and still attracts many admirers. Not much is actually known about this picture or the artist.
I can't fully describe the emotions I experience by looking at this canvas. It is very relaxing and pleasant for eyes and for soul. The combination of colours is so harmonious and composed. It can't be called "breath-taking" or "memorable", but still it's deep and peaceful. It conforms the Eastern philosophy of inner balance, soul harmony and consent with the world of nature.
The bird flycatcher is very honoured in its homeland. Its song counts as one of the three most beautiful bird songs in Japan. Its  symbolizes the sky, and the beauty of nature. Also, these birds are said to bring happiness.
Chrysanthemums, which are represented here, are also symbolic. In Japan this flower called "the golden flower" or "the flower of sun", and it symbolizes perfection and majesty.
Japanese art is very different from the art of west. Of course it's not that  colourful, and appealing to the eyesIt's very simplistic, using an easy palette of colours, but still it's really inspiring.

About me

The James Cameron Task

  1. James Cameron was a very curious and imaginative kid. He was absorbed in science fiction books, but also he was eager to find something unusual in this world too. He wanted to explore the mysteries of this world, that were beyond human imagination. That's why he probably didn't have many friends. I have several friends like James Cameron, and I hope they will eventually become successful too (although I doubt they can surpass James Cameron).

How might allowing cameras inside the U.S. Supreme Court chambers affect news coverage of their cases? What might be the pros and cons of video coverage of Supreme Court cases for both viewers and the Supreme Court?

I think, the main problem with allowing cameras during the trial is that reporters with cameras could be  very noisy and they would distract judges, because judges should be very attentive considerate towards the case. On the other hand, allowing video coverage may help to increase people's trust and assurance to the Court.

Fitness Instructors

  1. Cardiovascular. Using the stairs instead of the elevator is health-giving for your heart and cardiovascular system.
  2. Sporadic. I do physical activity only, when I have time. I guess I'm sporadic.
  3. Fatigue. Working out too much may cause fatigue, so make sure you have enough rest.
  4. Stretching. Stretching will icrease the flexibility of your muscles.

Information Society

Information society is the next step of progress of human civilization. Nowadays what you know is more important than what you have. Knowledge, but not property, became real value, because with right knowledge you can get anything you want. That's why computers became so popular. You can get any information you need without leaving your house! Internet is probably the greatest thing ever invented, and that's what make information society so fantastic. Well, of course Internet connect everybody, and that's why there is no guarantee of your personal data, because of computer hackers and virus creators. But I think you just need to be careful, because there is nothing safe in the whole (not only virtual) world, and that's really sad...

Feedback

It was an interesting lesson today. I've never visited that "Learning English" website before, so it was very informative for me. There are many facts and news from the whole English-speaking world. I'm sure it can be very useful for education.

The word "cheesy"

X: How do you imagine your own wedding?
Z: I would like to wear a beautiful white dress, there should be white pigeons and flowers everywhere, and my husband should carry me on his hands under the sound of some romantic music....
X: OMG how cheesy!
Z: What did you say?!!

RIP Megaupload

It's been almost a month since we lost one of the biggest file hosting website. It was the most optimal (apart from torrent-trackers) way to share you files with other people. Unlike the other file hosting services MU had no annoying ad and it let you download all the files you need (music, video, books etc) with great speed.
On January 19 MegaUpload.com has been shut down by federal prosecutors in Virginia. The site’s founder Kim Dotcom and three others were arrested by the police in New Zealand at the request of US authorities (link).

It was all because of SOPAACTAPIPA and other stupid copyright laws, which acronyms sound ridiculous. -_-
Is it a crime to watch your favourite movie and share your impressions with friends?

I still hope it would be bring back in the future.
